Business Development Solutions

Everyone that has intentions of starting a business or branching out an existing business into new fields will realize how difficult that is nowadays. The competition is fierce, well organized and with the development of the internet there has been a great increase in marketing styles and tactics. There are many forms that Business Development Solutions can come in and each company will have to review themselves individually in order to be able to find the best method. In some cases it will be possible to have software tools or web based development tools that will be sufficient. These include a number of marketing, publishing, mailing and server devices that contain templates to choose from and which can also be integrated with one another. This has the advantage that you can oversee things your self and have total control, but on the other hand for a large business starting up this might be overwhelming. You will also need to have a great understanding and knowledge of software applications, communications and the internet in order to be able to actually use and integrate all the necessary features. If not sure, there are many courses or seminars that focus on business development software solutions and the training of how to use them. Any training and practicing on such solutions should start well in advance of actually needing to use them in a professional manner so that you will know what you are doing from day one. You will also have to do research and compare the different applications and their prices. Not all business development software is affordable and you will have to find and purchase the one that really covers all of your immediate and near future needs.

Other business develop solutions come in the form of consultants or even a headquarters in the case of franchise stores. Consultants can be expensive, but for the most part they have experience developing businesses and create a plan just for you based on all the information they collect on your branch, company size, budgeting, location and competition. This head start is money well spent and a successful start is one of the most important things needed for a new business trying to get hold of a customer share in the local market. E-Myth Consultants or companies can also develop unique marketing strategies for you that will make you stand out amongst competition and this is not something everyone will be able to do without professional support and advice.

A business development organization usually forms alliances and agreements with other companies that are mutually beneficial. One product may compliment the other and provide a more complete solution for customers. Joint advertising, training, and sales calls may be involved. Sometimes there is a sharing of technology. A business development organization may or may not include sales and marketing.

For a small company, the business development plan can be made by the MD/CEO, along with his key people on board. If the organization is more structured, there would be a sales / marketing team who would take care of this. In large organizations, there is a separate department or division specializing in presales activities (who work along with sales).

In smaller companies, there is usually no hard and fast rule, since things are more flexible; and even an entry level person may get involved in BD activities.

I haven't been downtown but have recently moved to the suburbs from out of State. Pretty nice out here in the perimeter, except boring. Cincinnati is clearly not a night life kind of place.

I would suggest not sticking it out, it is not going to improve. Being from Los Angeles where neighborhoods change rapidly I can testify that these situations do not get better.

I don't understand why crime is so rampant since downtown is in a State where the laws allow both open and concealed (with permit) carry of pistols. An armed society is a polite society, no excuse for people being victimized. Well, except Cincinnati is in the bible belt, which not only makes people accept their Fate but also be the most cowardly drivers anywhere, no guts at all. Don't expect them to advance into an intersection to turn left unless they get an actual arrow.

    But I digress.
Get out, no point in staying with a sinking ship. Kentucky is nice and the people have a self-sufficiency about them, the Pioneer Spirit.

My first thought is if you can afford it I'd pay a base. A seasoned and productive sales rep will make 100+k (and potentially a lot more) per year — why would they leave that to take a start up job with no salary? What will end up happening is you'll waste time burning through inexperienced or ineffective sales reps while your chance to make money passes away. The job of sales, after all, is to make you more money — i.e. it's an investment — and you'll get what you pay for.

That being said here are answers to your questions:

    1. Instead of letting go someone not at target, first evaluate why. Is it the rep? Is it bad luck? Is it something else? Solicit feedback and seek information. If it is indeed the rep, what is standard is to put them on a 30-90 day plan, wherein they must meet a certain target or be terminated.
    2. Depends on the product, but usually companies like to see genuine opps before 3 months and some closes within 6 months. If you're selling a true commodity, you should see some real $ within 3 months.
    3. Certainly. If nothing else, you get feedback you can use and it will give you a sense of how the candidate will respond to buyers' inquiries.

I recommend writing a short job spec for a specific project (or several). Submit that at Guru.com and you will receive many responses. Some will be boilerplate (standard text) and some will show that people have taken the time to examine your project and respond. Ignore the former and work hard at qualifying the latter through references, questions, and their interest.

This has worked well for me and I now have a short list of partners that I use constantly. Some are in India, some in US, and one is in Eastern Europe. The work is going well and the costs are attractive. The key to my success, thought, was working hard up front to qualify the partners prior spending any money, then giving each of them a single project with no additonal commitments. One didn't perform well and I dropped them. The others have been with me for over a year.

    Good luck!

It depends for the business model- but if you sell goods for example, the major challenge would be to having a real-time inventory database.

If you can get a hold of a good method of tracking your inventory via data basing software, the problems are easier to resolve. Knowing what product moves fastest will help you make your restock orders or if you manufacture the product, when/what/how many to make.

For a service e-business, it's more a matter of tracking human resources. If you have say a plumbing/repair business, you need to know who is where and doing what. The customer won't see this aspect, but having control on dispatch via software will help you schedule your workers, how many to employ and where.

These are just general pointers, but they should give you an idea of the basics.

It is working within the company to develop new ideas, business opportunities etc.
