http://www.narms.com lists come mystery shopper and other part time or contract work in the merchandising industry.

http://www.certifiedreports.com also does mystery shopping. The link listed above is their movie division, but once you have your profile created you have access to all their jobs. They do quite a bit of secret shopping for big retailers.

Never pay for a mystery shopper job, real companies do not charge end shoppers for this service. NARMS is an excellent starting point to find other companies who do merchandising/shopping/demo services.

Mystery shopping is fun, but you are not going to get rich from it. Once you complete an assignment (or "shop" as they are also called), you will have to enter in a report, usually done online. Some reports are very simple and may only take a few minutes to enter, while others are more time consuming and require a lot of narrative. With some shops, you are given a fee, and others are reimbursement only. You would have to decide if it was worth it to you to complete that specific shop.

If this interests you, then I suggest you start now to sign up for companies since it can take a while for them to accept you. It also depends if they need shoppers in your city. If they do, they will probably accept you sooner. But, if they already have too many shoppers in your city, you could be waiting a while to work with a company.

There are MANY ms companies out there, so I would suggest to apply for several. You won't get all your jobs from just one company.

Also, NEVER pay for mystery shopping! There are some companies that say if you pay them, they will send you a list of mystery shopping companies to apply for. DON'T do this!! You can find the same companies on the internet if you do a search for mystery shopping!

Yes, they are required to report your earnings to the IRS via form 1099 if you make more than $599 in a calendar year and they need your social security number to do this. All mystery shopping companies will ask you for this.

They will almost all require a paypal account to get paid as well, its just easiest for them.

What to watch out for is if they ask you for money. Never pay them. They pay you.

yes, my friend worked as a mystery shopper part time and she signed up online — if something is available in your area they will send you all the necessary paper work/questionnaires to take to the designated store(s)

Look for the MSPA —-That means the company is a reputable member of the Mystery Shopping Providers Association.

There are agencies that don't charge a fee, and they will be local to YOUR city – look in phone book. Problem is, don't look to this to support you. You will go for lunch here, dinner there, maybe just a couple of drinks, or small purchases of crap you may not even need or want. Or pretend to rent an apartment. Maybe get a haircut. And there is not enough pay to provide you a weekly fee you could live on or even be worth the interruption to your day. Maybe the solution is to get on with several different agencies. I gave up because I needed a real job.

Surveys are a scam too unless you want to spend a zillion hours racking up bogus "points" or getting like $1 or $2 per.
